Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) serves as the Design Architect and Structural Engineer for the Taipei Twin Towers, leading Detail Concept Design across architecture, structure, landscape, building systems, and high-performance design. SOM’s schematic design and design development for architecture, structure, and office interiors formed the base for local collaborators to execute the design vision. Through an integrated approach, SOM shaped the project’s overall vision, from the towers’ aerodynamic structural strategy to the culturally-inspired architecture, including the soaring towers, porous podium, dynamic curtain wall systems, and terraced public realms connecting pedestrians with city parks and public transit. In addition to leading the architectural and structural design, SOM brought technical knowledge in developing the sustainability framework, to meet the project’s LEED and WELL sustainability goals.
